Nyanza and its strategic partners has successfully developed a unique technology that enables the production of sulphate titanium dioxide pigment from a slag material stockpiled at the Highveld Steel & Vanadium complex in Emalahleni, Mpumalanga, South Africa. Through carefully controlled process parameters and innovative engineering design, the Nyanza plant will be one of the lowest cost producers of sulphate pigment in the world. With an initial capacity of 50 000tons per annum, there will be sufficient pigment produced for the South  African market, while the rest will be exported to other parts of the continent and globe.

With an abundance of feedstock (over 200 years supply), the Nyanza plant is well positioned to produce pigment and other titanium products to serve wide range of markets and applications. In phase 2 of its development cycle, Nyanza will produce titanium sponge for use in the aircraft industry. This product will move South Africa up the value curve in terms of beneficiating its titanium resources, thereby increasing the export earnings of the country.

During the production of sulphate pigment using its proprietary and innovative process, Nyanza aims to have zero waste from the process, thereby all but eliminating the need for large settling ponds and waste disposal processes. In this process, valuable by-products will be produced for use in various sectors and industries.  As these products are produced withous fresh mining of feedstock, they are considered green products, and will provide users with environmentally friendly input material and enable them to claim carbon credits.
